ladies are you suffering with shoulder pain?

Let me guess. You have tried everything. You have changed your diet, taken anti inflammatory meds, you have used pain patches, you have gone to the GP, Chiropractor, Physio, Acupuncture, Massage........no change! You have had x-rays - nothing wrong.......so what could it be that is creating this pain?

Do you believe that your hormones can do this? Yes they can! Let's look at why and how this happens.

Although Menopause is a natural part of the ageing process for everyone it can sometimes come with some nasty symptoms. But why is this? why would hormones create pain in the body? Well the hormones affect many parts of the body. In fact our hormones are actually our management and without them or with the incorrect balance of them, our bodies just are not happy. And when the body is not happy it will sound a siren that something is wrong, therefore the symptoms will arise. Many parts of the body are affected as hormonal levels decline. These include:

  • reproductive system

  • vaginal tract

  • urinary system

  • nervous system

  • heart

  • brain

  • bones

  • skin

A common symptom often associated with hormonal changes is pain.

Physical imbalances:

Joint pain

Menopause may cause joint pain that can affect the knees, shoulders, neck, elbows, or hands. Old joint injuries may begin to ache. As time goes on, you may start to notice that you feel more aches and pains in those areas than you used to. That’s because estrogen helps to reduce inflammation. As it’s levels decline, inflammation may increase, causing discomfort and menopause-related arthritis.

Meridian imbalances:

Joint pain

So what is a "MERIDIAN"?

The simplest definition is that a meridian is an energetic highway in the human body. Meridians allow for the flow of energy, to circulate throughout the body. Meridians exist in corresponding pairs and each meridian has multiple acupuncture points along the pathway.

Triple Warmer is the meridian that controls our fight, flight, or freeze response. The triple warmer impacts the immune system and our ability to manage stress. When it is activated, the body is on high alert.

So where do you generally hold your stress? THE SHOULDERS!

If you look at the corresponding picture on the left you will see exactly where the triple warmer meridian runs in the body.

The triple warmer meridian consists of 23 acupuncture points. The meridian begins at the tip of the ring finger and passes between the knuckles of the ring and pinkie fingers. It then goes between the two bones of the arm and to the shoulder via the tip of the elbow and back of the upper arm.

From the shoulder, the triple warmer then descends to the chest to connect with the pericardium meridian, then ascends back up to the collarbone. Finally, this meridian goes up the side of the neck and around the ear before ending at the temple.

The triple warmer not only transports, but also assists in transforming fluids and solids so they can be used or eliminated by the body. Additionally, this meridian is believed to play an important role in circulating energy throughout the entire body.

The triple warmer meridian gets its name from its 3 parts, or burners, known as the upper, middle, and lower burners:

  • Located above the diaphragm, the upper burner regulates intake. It includes the head, heart, pericardium, throat, and lungs.

  • The middle burner extends from the diaphragm to the naval. This burner controls transformation and includes the stomach, spleen, liver, and gallbladder.

  • The lower burner regulates elimination. It is located below the diaphragm and includes the kidneys, bladder, large and small intestines, uterus/testes, and genitalia.

In addition to controlling transformation and transportation within the body, the triple warmer is also said to regulate our stress and immune system responses. In our stressful modern lives, it is more common to have excess heat in the triple warmer meridian, leading to excessive activation of our fight-or-flight response and setting the stage for chronic inflammation. And TA-DA PAIN AND INFLAMMATION
