Have you flushed today?

Ever feel generally unwell? Feeling off and there is no apparent reason for it?

It could be that your lymphatic system is blocked. Your lymphatic system is part of your circulatory system and immune system. It is responsible for draining all the waste that is produced by every cell in your body. Lymph removes bacteria and other unwanted particles from your body like a natural sewerage system - a blocked lymphatic system is like having a clogged toilet! This means your body cannot detox properly.

When your lymphatic system is operating as it should, the lymph fluid carries fat, waste and bacteria back into the bloodstream. It is then the job of the liver and kidneys to move this waste out of the bloodstream so they can be eliminated through the bowels or the bladder.

Your lymphatic system does not have a pump to push the lymph around your body - it relies on gravity, movement and breathing to get this done for you. So if you are in a high stress situation, sit at a desk or in a car all day your lymph don't get much of an opportunity to get going. Walking, swimming, yoga, pilates can all help encourage lymph to move - so when you need to get to the second floor - take the stairs!

Did you know that your lymphatic system is so important that if it stopped working you would die within 24 to 48 hours! This is why it is so important to keep it moving!

So how do you know if your lymphatic system is blocked? Below are some symptoms:

● Swelling in your fingers and toes

● Feeling stiff and sore when you wake up in the morning

● Cold hands and feet

● Brain fog

● Chronic fatigue

● Depression

● Bloating

● Excess weight

● Food sensitivities

● Digestive issues

● Dry or itchy skin

● Regular sinus infections

● Frequent colds and flu

● Weakened immune system

● Swollen lymph nodes

● Increase in allergies and sensitivities

● Constipation

It can also be difficult to lose weight if the lymphatic system is blocked. When the lymphatic system stops functioning efficiently, fat absorption becomes a problem and fat builds up in the tissues. Over time this can lead to noticeable weight gain as well as adding to the difficulty of losing weight.

The foods you eat can also affect your lymph flow.

Here are some examples of foods that block up the lymphatic system:

● Processed food

● Caffeine and alcohol

● Excessive amounts of salt

● Transfats

● Processed sugars

● Low protein diet

There are also certain foods that can help boost your lymphatic system:

● Water

● Cranberry

● Leafy greens

● Nuts and seeds

● Garlic

● Ginger

● Turmeric

● Seaweed

● Citrus

If you suspect your lymphatic system is struggling - lymph drainage is a great idea. Lymph drainage can get the train moving to its designated stations so that your body can flush all the bad guys out like it is supposed to.

Our lymph drainage sessions are done with a machine that uses infrared to break down all the fat, toxins and water that are blocked and with a small vacuum we move them to the lymph nodes where they can naturally detox out your body. This procedure also gets the blood moving through the body - thereby increasing blood circulation at the same time as unblocking the lymph nodes.

The infrared also helps break down collagen in the body which in turn increases the production of new collagen! Great for giving your skin a glow and reducing puffiness.

Our sessions are an hour and focus on the main problem areas of the stomach and legs in the hour. If you are also wanting to push the detox process along, book a foot detox for after your session!
