A form of Vitamin B1 (Thiamine), Benfotiamine is hailed for being more bio-available than its water-soluble counterpart. This is due to it’s fat-soluble nature that seemingly allows for superior cell membrane penetration to areas of prime focus.

It is proposed that supplementation with Benfotiamine could be beneficial in decreasing the formation of AGEs (advanced glycation end products). AGEs accumulate naturally as one ages, and are also created when cooking certain foods at high temperatures.

The toxic effects of these advanced end products of glycation especially influence the severity of many complications linked to high blood sugar levels, such as neuropathy, cognitive decline, erectile dysfunction and retinopathy.

Modern day food processing and cooking methods contribute to the formation of AGEs and lay us all open to their long term cell damaging effects.

In many trials, Benfotiamine supplementation has proved safe even at higher doses and considered to be an inhibitor of AGE accumulation and oxidative stress.
